I finished my first doll! :D And now… TADAAAA! This is 3D fanart! xD As I’m constantly fascinated by Studio Ghibli movies and loved “Arrietty” I wanted to try and build her. I planned on making her in original size she is in the movie (which is approx. 8cm/~3” I think). But that was just too small and now she’s about two times the original size. However, I’m really proud of completing her. ♥

My Super Gem Wool Pea Coats are back in stock! Available in black and grey.

I’ve used up all of the grey fabric, so there’s only two left. As it’s spring here in Aus I don’t expect to be able to get more wool flannel until next year some time. This also means that there’s only one left of the longer grey coat in my store as well. So if you want one, don’t wait!

I have two of Mon’s coats and they are amazing!  My god, I love the grey one.

These are so lovely! I wish I had a doll big enough to wear them! That grey one is gorgeous.

30 DoK Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?

    Yes and yes and awesome!

I haven’t done much designing for humans, but I’ve done a bunch of designing for dolls, and I’m quite proud of most of it.  You can see the designs I’ve released patterns for on my Ravelry designer page. ^_^  My latest piece is still in progress - I’m testing out other sizes in preparation for releasing my first for-pay pattern (think of it!  Threes, maybe even fours of dollars to go towards my hobbies!) hopefully sometime this fall (it was supposed to be September…then October…now I’m faced with a dilemma of either releasing an incompletely tested pattern and possibly needing to release errata, or pushing the deadline back as I test out the final size, neither of which particularly appeals).  Here’s a snap from the first Finished Object, Ur-Bun #1 (modelled by Suzuha, Soom Mini-Gem Idrial, who is about the size of a Barbie).

Dyeing I haven’t done as much of.  In fact, I just tried it once, because one day not long after I completed the above sweater (or possibly while I was in the middle of it?) I had the LARGE CONE OF LACEWEIGHT YARN next to where I was sitting with my coffee and yup, I spilled all over it, wrecking a bunch of this lovely pink yarn.  Well, through the magic of food colouring, I salvaged most of it!  Now I have a cone with slightly less yarn on it and possibly a few tiny splotches of coffee-tan, and also this little cake of awesome blues and purples!

It’s my intention to buy some KnitPicks Bare laceweight and try this dyeing thing out with a bit more forethought…but I’m theoretically on a yarn diet right now, so who knows when I might get around to it.

30 DoK Day 7: Your least favorite?

I’ve been thinking about this all day.

There are few things I’ve knit that I’ve really disliked - usually I decide I don’t like them well before they’re finished and frog or toss them.  It’s possible that there’s something hiding in the back of a drawer or the bottom of a bin that I like even less than this piece, but I think it’s unlikely.  Are you ready?

a doll wears a chunky knit skirt

It could be really great.  I still love the yarn, and the pattern is pretty cool.  But this was one of the first things I knit for my dolls.  It’s knit in a fairly stiff worsted weight faux-chenille yarn and it’s SO OUT OF PROPORTION.  I mean, chunky knits are one thing, my very first doll sweater is also very nearly the equivalent of yarn the size of your wrist but somehow it works with the garment.  This just doesn’t.  Further, it was knit for a swap with another doll collector who makes amazing felted garments and I’m even more embarrassed that I tried to trade this for one of her skirts than I was at the time (and I was kind of embarrassed then).  The swap ended up not happening because the other thing I was supposed to make for her, I lost temporarily in my move to Japan.  I messaged her when I found it and finished everything, but she never messaged me back.  So on top of my dissatisfaction with the garment itself, this is my least favourite because of its history!  I’ve tried to sell the thing (no dice, even at $5).  I’ve thought about ripping it out and re-using the yarn, but I actually glued that ribbon in with no-sew fabric glue so I’m not even sure it’s possible.  So there it sits taunting me from the back of my large-dollclothes drawer.  Taunting and smirking.  That bastard skirt.
